The Sound of Music - Children's Cast and Allocated Performances (1.19MB)
Regarded by many as their favourite musical of all time, The Sound of Music marked the last collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein. The setting is an Abbey in Austria, where the free-spirited Maria finds it hard to accept the discipline and frequently escapes to the mountains. It is arranged for Maria to work as a governess for the aristocratic Captain Georg Von Trapp—a widower with seven children. By adding music and outdoor expeditions to the children's normally rigorous schedule, Maria wins the children's hearts. Although Captain Von Trapp is engaged to the elegant socialite, Elsa Schraeder, through the course of the story he falls in love with Maria and eventually marries her. But it is 1938, and their lives are quickly disrupted by war. The family has become well known as an amateur singing group, and after a final appearance at a local contest, they manage to escape across the mountains to Switzerland.
This timeless tale of love, family and the wonder of music itself has rightfully earned a place in the hearts of children and adults the world over. Based on Maria Von Trapp's autobiography, The Trapp Family Singers, The Sound of Music overflows with songs you know and love, such as ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Climb Every Mountain’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Edelweiss’, and many more. Join Babirra Music Theatre for a beautifully reimagined staging that will have you recreating your childhood memories of this extraordinary classic whilst capturing the affections of a new generation of theatre patrons.
